HPV 9-valent vaccine for the 27 to 45-year-olds!

The FDA expanded the approval the HPV 9-valent vaccine, recombinant to include women and men aged 27 to 45 years for the prevention of certain cancers and diseases caused by HPV.

The HPV 9-valent vaccine (Gardasil 9, Merck) is now approved for males and females aged 9 through 45 years. (www.healio.com/)

“Today’s approval represents an important opportunity to help prevent HPV-related diseases and cancers in a broader age range,” Peter Marks, MD, PhD, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that HPV vaccination prior to becoming infected with the HPV types covered by the vaccine has the potential to prevent more than 90 percent of these cancers, or 31,200 cases every year, from ever developing.”

This is the package insert for the vaccine: https://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/g/gardasil_9/gardasil_9_pi.pdf

The following is from the package insert. We are not saying these symptoms will happen. However, according to the information below from the package insert, it could, may, might happen. And, again I will say that we are not saying you shouldn’t get a vaccine. Just know what the inserts say, and make an informed decision.

“6.2

There is limited post-marketing experience following administration of GARDASIL 9. However, the
post-marketing safety experience with GARDASIL is relevant to GARDASIL 9 since the vaccines are
manufactured similarly and contain the same antigens from HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. Because these
events were reported voluntarily from a population of uncertain size, it is not possible to reliably estimate
their frequency or to establish a causal relationship to vaccine exposure. The following adverse
experiences have been spontaneously reported during post-approval use of GARDASIL and may also be
seen in post-marketing experience with GARDASIL 9:
Blood and lymphatic system disorders: Autoimmune hemolytic anemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic
purpura, lymphadenopathy.
Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders: Pulmonary embolusGastrointestinal disorders: Nausea, pancreatitis, vomiting.
General disorders and administration site conditions: Asthenia, chills, death, fatigue, malaise.
Immune system disorders: Autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions, bronchospasm, and urticaria.
Musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders: Arthralgia, myalgia.
Nervous system disorders: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, dizziness, Guillain-Barré syndrome,
headache, motor neuron disease, paralysis, seizures, syncope (including syncope associated with tonic-10
clonic movements and other seizure-like activity) sometimes resulting in falling with injury, transverse
myelitis.
Infections and infestations: Cellulitis.
Vascular disorders: Deep venous thrombosis” (For more information see our HPV vaccine page.)

Zostavax-Shingles Vaccine-For Adults

There are many legal cases coming up from adverse reactions to the Shingle Vaccine, Zostavax,
which primarily affects the boomer population (50 and above).
This information was updated on Feb. 18, 2018.
“The vaccine only works in about half of patients,
and even then it will only last for about six years.”

The FDA reports that Zostavax side effects can include the following:

  • Shingles
  • Chickenpox
  • Rash
  • Hives
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Eye disorders, including necrotizing retinitis
For patients who are immunocompromised, their bodies may not be able to fight off the small dose of the virus. This can cause a host of injuries, including chickenpox and shingles itself.  But some plaintiffs allege that Zostavax caused even more serious complications, like blindness, hearing loss, paralysis, brain damage, and fatal liver failure.
